Winter Shelters to Remain Open 24 Hours Starting Wednesday at 5 P.M.
Los Angeles, CA (January 18, 2017) -
The Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority announces the temporary extension of hours at most winter shelters. Most winter shelters will operate for two separate 64-hour timeframes to accommodate for cold and wet weather conditions. The first activation will begin Wednesday, January 18th at 5 p.m. until Saturday, January 21st at 7 a.m.
The second activation will occur starting Saturday, January 21st at 5 p.m. until Tuesday, January 24th at 7 a.m.
Shelters will resume normal hours of operations beginning Tuesday, January, 24th at 7 a.m.
The following Winter Shelters will stay open during this period:
- HIGHLAND PARK
- SANTA CLARITA
- SKID ROW
- SOUTH LOS ANGELES
- LONG BEACH
East San Gabriel Valley and the City of Lancaster will not be participating in the full 24 hour activations. However, the City of Lancaster will host extended hours of operation until 10 a.m. on the mornings of Thursday, January 19th
and Saturday, January 21st
, and will be opened for 24 hours on Friday, January 20th
and Sunday, January 22nd.

Winter shelters provide shelter, warmth, food and comfort to homeless individuals during the cold and wet weather season. In addition to temporary emergency shelter, each program location provides access to supportive services and housing assistance. Pet accommodations are provided at some sites. More than 1,400 beds will be available during the 2016-2017 Winter Shelter Program season across the City and County of Los Angeles. The Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority coordinates the Winter Shelter Program in partnership with the California National Guard, the County of Los Angeles and the City of Los Angeles.
